LGBT Business Enterprise (LGBTBE) is a company-level diversity certification verifying that a business is majority-owned by an LGBT individual. The standard helps connect LGBTBE-owned businesses with company decision-makers at federal, state, and local levels.
To qualify for certification, an organization must have been formed as a legal entity in the United States with its headquarters located in the U.S. The company must be at least 51% owned, operated, managed, and controlled by an LGBT person who is either a U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident. The business must operate independently from any non-LGBT business enterprise.
Third-party certification is issued exclusively by the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC). Appropriate documentation must be supplied in accordance with NGLCC standards. Certification is typically awarded after a review of documentation and a site visit. The certification is valid for a period of two years, after which companies must re-certify.
